My work is inspired by nature, or it reflects the mood of the current times, so as a result, ojolo.co is a brand of functional handmade ceramics produced in small batches where each piece is unique and has got a different story to tell.

ABOUT ME

I am Monika. I design, sculpt, and turn raw materials to life in a small studio in Andalusia, Spain.

What first was an experiment, very quickly turned out to be my thing. I believe that finding your true calling is an accident. And so I experimented my way into an accident ever since.

I guess I have always known that I should do something creative, but I was playing around this concept, almost like I was afraid to face the truth. There is a strong artistic background in my family, but I ignored that fact and followed a completely different direction. So, after getting a degree in Italian Philology I started to travel in search of the sign.

I decided I need to continue my studies and so I ended up in an art direction course at Central St. Martins in London. Afterward, I started to work in advertising, which I very quickly discovered was not what I truly wanted to do. I moved to NYC to try something different. At Parsons School of Design, I got a bit closer to more hands-on art, trying myself in graphic design and typography. I took out of New York everything I could and learned jewelry design, drawing, illustration, and web design.

Feeling completely disoriented, which direction I should follow, I went back to London and ended up in yet another school. Again fooling myself, I finished a makeup artistry course at the London School of Arts. No surprise that I never followed this path, instead, I started to work at a talent management agency for fashion designers. Watching how other artists are fulfilling their dreams I was helping them by organizing their showrooms at the Paris Fashion Week.

After 10 years of rolling through different schools in different cities and taking many random jobs, finally, here I am in the right place, my home in Andalusia. Here I have found peace of mind and I cleared my understanding about what is my true calling. All the experiences culminated in finding the right medium for me, ceramics. It had it all, the expressiveness of arts and improvisation of craft & design.

I have found my accident, finally.

Mi obra está inspirada en la naturaleza, o refleja el estado de ánimo de los tiempos actuales, por lo que ojolo.co es una marca de cerámica funcional hecha a mano y producida en pequeños lotes, donde cada pieza es única y tiene una historia diferente que contar.

MI HISTORIA

Yo soy Monika. Diseño, esculpo y doy vida a materias primas en un pequeño estudio en Andalucía, España.

Lo que primero fue un experimento, rápidamente resultó ser lo mío. Creo que encontrar tu verdadera vocación es un accidente. Así que experimenté hasta que tuve un accidente.

Supongo que siempre supe que debería hacer algo creativo, pero estaba jugando con este concepto, casi como si tuviera miedo de enfrentarme a la verdad. Hay una sólida formación artística en mi familia, pero ignoré ese hecho y seguí una dirección completamente diferente. Más tarde, después de graduarme en Filología Italiana, comencé a viajar en busca de alguna señal.

Decidí que necesitaba continuar mis estudios y terminé en un curso de dirección de arte en Central St. Martins, en Londres. Después, comencé a trabajar en publicidad, y rápidamente descubrí que no era lo que realmente quería hacer. Me mudé a Nueva York para probar algo diferente. En Parsons School of Design, me acerqué un poco más al arte práctico, probándome en diseño gráfico y tipografía. Saqué de Nueva York todo lo que pude y aprendí diseño de joyas, dibujo, ilustración y diseño web.

Sintiéndome completamente desorientada y sin saber qué dirección debería seguir, volví a Londres y terminé en otra escuela. De nuevo, engañándome a mí misma, terminé un curso de maquillaje artístico en la London School of Arts. No es de extrañar que nunca haya seguido este camino, en cambio, comencé a trabajar en una agencia de gestión de talentos para diseñadores de moda. Ver cómo otros artistas estaban cumpliendo sus sueños, les ayudé organizando sus salas de exposición en la Semana de la Moda de París.

Después de 10 años rodando por diferentes escuelas en diferentes ciudades y tomando muchos trabajos al azar, finalmente, aquí estoy en el lugar correcto, mi hogar en Andalucía. Aquí he encontrado paz mental y he aclarado mi entendimiento sobre cuál es mi verdadera vocación. Todas las experiencias culminaron en encontrar el medio adecuado para mí, la cerámica. Lo tenía todo, la expresividad de las artes y la improvisación de artesanía y diseño.

Finalmente, he encontrado mi accidente.
